About Me

South Asian Therapist Who Understands Your Story

Hi, I’m Surabhi—Welcome.

I know that trusting a stranger with your deepest thoughts, fears, and struggles isn’t easy—and I don’t take that for granted. If you’re here, something in you is looking for change, healing, or clarity. And I want you to know: you’re in the right place.

I’m a licensed psychotherapist and relationship therapist, and I specialize in working with South Asian Americans, children of immigrants, and those who feel caught between cultures. My work is centered around helping you break free from generational expectations, cultural guilt, and societal pressures—so you can live authentically, on your own terms.

I know firsthand how mental health struggles are often dismissed in South Asian communities. We’re taught to prioritize family, duty, and sacrifice—but what happens when those expectations don’t fit who you are?

What happens when your dreams, identity, and desires feel like a betrayal of everything you’ve been told to honor?

For years, I’ve worked with South Asians who feel trapped between tradition and self-discovery, torn between family obligations and personal fulfillment. I’ve helped clients navigate:

Cultural Identity & Belonging – Feeling like an outsider, whether in your family, your South Asian community, or American society
Intergenerational Trauma – Unpacking cycles of shame, suppression, and emotional distance passed down through generations
Guilt & Obligation – Learning how to prioritize yourself without the constant weight of “letting others down”
Relationships & Family Pressures – Managing love, marriage, career choices, and independence while still honoring your roots
Breaking Cultural Conditioning – Understanding which traditions serve you and which you’re ready to release

I do this work because I know how hard it is to untangle yourself from everything you’ve been told you “should” be—and because I believe you deserve a life that feels like yours.

A Judgment-Free Space for South Asians

Have you ever hesitated to seek therapy because you feared judgment from your family, your community, or even South Asian mental health professionals?

Maybe you’ve avoided South Asian therapists because you worried they might not truly understand your experience—or worse, reinforce the same cultural expectations you’re trying to navigate.

Let me be clear: this is a no-shame zone.

You won’t have to explain the complexities of your culture from scratch—I already get it.
You won’t be judged for your choices, your struggles, or your past.
You will be met with compassion, understanding, and real strategies to help you move forward.

Therapy should be a space where you feel seen, safe, and free to express yourself fully—without the weight of cultural expectations looming over you.

My Approach to Therapy

I provide culturally responsive, decolonized, and trauma-informed therapy, meaning:

🔹 I won’t ask you to “just set boundaries” if I know that’s not how our cultures work.
🔹 I won’t minimize your family’s influence—instead, we’ll explore how to navigate it in a way that aligns with you.
🔹 I won’t assume that one-size-fits-all therapy methods will work for you. Your experience is complex, and I honor that.

Instead, I meet you where you are and use an integrative, evidence-based approach that blends:

Liberation Psychology – Helping you break free from internalized oppressive ideology, societal conditioning, and cultural guilt so you can live with agency and authenticity.
Psychodynamic Therapy – Exploring how your past experiences, family history, and generational patterns shape your current challenges and relationships.
Internal Family Systems (IFS) – Understanding the different “parts” of yourself (the one that wants to rebel, the one that wants to please, the one that feels guilty) and helping them work together instead of against each other.
Attachment-Based Therapy – Examining how early relationships shape your self-worth, emotional patterns, and ability to connect with others.
Mindfulness & Acceptance-Based Practices – Learning to sit with discomfort, release judgment, and build self-trust in a way that honors both mind and body.

Through this holistic and culturally grounded approach, we’ll unpack the unspoken, question the “rules” that no longer serve you, and create a path forward that feels right for you.

Why I Do This Work

After earning my degree, I spent years working with children and families navigating the aftermath of trauma and abuse. That experience deepened my understanding of how unspoken pain, generational wounds, and emotional suppression shape our lives.

But something was missing.

I started my practice in 2020 because I saw a gap in mental health care for South Asians. I remember searching for a therapist who just got it—who understood the weight of family expectations, the complexities of cultural guilt, the unspoken rules around marriage, relationships, and career choices—without me having to explain every nuance.

Finding that kind of support was hard. So I built it.

I created Revolutionary Reflections to be that space for people like you—people who feel like misfits, who don’t quite fit in, who are ready to break cycles but need a safe space to do it.

A Labor of Passion & Liberation

Working with South Asian individuals isn’t just my profession—it’s my passion. It’s deeply personal.

I know what it’s like to feel othered, misunderstood, and out of place—even within your own community. And I also know what it feels like to step into your power and redefine your life on your terms.

That’s why I do this work. Not to tell you what to do, but to help you uncover the answers you already have inside you.

You don’t have to stay stuck in the patterns you were handed.
You don’t have to keep choosing between duty and happiness.
You don’t have to figure it out alone.

You already have the power within you. Let’s navigate this journey together.
