Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why should I choose a South Asian therapist?

Culture informs every part of us: what we see, How We Learn, And What Values We Carry Forward. Without This Context, Your Therapy Journey doesn’t include your whole person. Healing includes all of you, not parts.

    • As an Indian therapist (and a therapy seeker myself), I found my healing journey was significantly different when I didn’t have to explain basic South Asian cultural nuances to my therapist. After all, it’s your healing time, not a training session for your therapist.

  • Do you accept insurance?

Yes. We accept Aetna, United Healthcare, Oscar, and Oxford. You May Also Use Your FSA or HSA Accounts for therapy at the private pay rate.

      • Insurance companies require a mental health diagnosis on record for billing purposes. If you choose to use your network benefits to cover the cost of sessions, note that you Opt for your mental health diagnosis information to be accessible to the insurance companies.

  • What are the Differences between therapy & psychiatry? it’s confusing.

Counseling or therapy includes traditional talk therapy, which focuses on sorting through thoughts, feelings, and behavioral concerns at various levels and intensities.

Psychiatry is care that addresses mental health needs using medication administration and management. Psychiatric services sparingly offer processing thoughts/feelings related to mental health concerns in depth.

  • How long does therapy last?

Your goals & commitment to the therapeutic process will determine your progress.  A general rule of thumb is that you will have the tools between 6-8 sessions to make significant progress if desired.

  • How often should I go to therapy?

Weekly or Bi-weekly for the first couple of months is recommended. This allows for trust and rapport building and establishes a foundation for progress towards your goals.

  • What can I expect in the first session?

The first session is driven by establishing your goals (How you would know you feel better) and learning more about the initial concerns that brought you to seek therapy.

  • Can therapy make things worse?

Participating in your healing journey means exploring parts of your life that have been hiding or undiscovered. Bringing these things to your attention can cause some discomfort. Rest assured, the discomfort is part of healing and is temporary.

  • What modality of therapy do you use?

Therapy models and systems historically were developed by and for white people. The lack of inclusivity and cultural understanding is missing from these traditional models. Because our practice is designed to create foundational understanding based on South Asian cultures, we use an eclectic approach. The models most frequently used are Trauma-informed, Person-Centered, Narrative, CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), & Solution-Focused modalities.

  • I’m worried about my parents or family finding out I’m seeking therapy. how can i be sure of confidentiality?

Your privacy is a top priority for us. All sessions are protected by HIPAA, meaning whatever you discuss stays protected under confidentiality laws. A few exceptions are in our informed consent form and covered during the initial session.

  • I live outside of Texas. Can we still work together?

Therapy services are currently available exclusively for individuals who permanently reside in Texas. (All clinicians must be licensed to practice in the state in which their clients reside.)
